Appraisal appointments

Assess disputed scope and value within the appraisal process.

An appraisal appointment has a defined valuation role. Mad River reviews the property-damage information and the applicable process before accepting an assignment.

When this helps

When the parties use an applicable appraisal process to address differences in damage scope or the amount of loss.

The role

Review the evidence, develop a supported appraisal position and participate in the process required by the appointment, with applicable impartiality and conflict requirements considered.

What you receive

A documented valuation position and supporting analysis, plus the appraisal documents required by the agreed process.

Focus of the service

  • Review the appointment, scope and applicable process
  • Compare supported quantities, repair scope and estimated values
  • Explain the basis of the appraisal position and any remaining differences

How is an appraisal appointment different from an umpire appointment?

An appraiser develops and explains a valuation within the appraisal process. An umpire serves a separate neutral role in addressing differences referred by the appraisers. Neither role is interchangeable with claims representation or mediation; the applicable process and requirements are reviewed first.

Start with a clear brief

To discuss an assignment, prepare the property category and location, a short description of the matter, the service requested, relevant timing, and an overview of the records available. Share confidential material only through an agreed, appropriate channel.
